DC01 UK Ltd has submitted plans for one of Europe's largest datacenter campuses, boasting up to two million square feet of space and a £3.75 billion price tag. The site, near the M25, is strategically located close to London, with a firm power reservation already in place.
According to the spokesperson from DC01 UK, the identity of the anticipated hyperscale customer remains "commercially sensitive," but they emphasized that it is a recognized and established hyperscaler, reflecting the competitive nature of the datacenter industry.
The project showcases the ongoing challenges in the datacenter sector, where obtaining planning permission and securing power are significant obstacles for many facilities worldwide. However, this new site has already addressed one of these issues through a reservation of 400MVA.
The facility's construction is projected to begin after planning rights are secured, with a completion timeline dependent on the unnamed hyperscaler poised to build and occupy the datacenters. The collaboration highlights a trend where developers focus on planning and site acquisition for major players in the industry.
