The 12-year-old girl suffered serious injuries during an incident at a family home in Charleville, which led to her being transferred to Dublin for specialist care.
Detectives are investigating the alleged assault that occurred shortly after 11:30pm, involving a group of men who forced their way into a residence and caused considerable damage.
Gardaí have sealed off the scene at New Line to conduct a full forensic examination, while appealing for witnesses and any available footage to aid in the investigation.
The condition of the injured girl is serious but stable as she continues to receive treatment at Temple Street Children's Hospital after being initially rushed to Cork University Hospital.
