FCC, Tracfone Wireless reach $16M cyber and privacy settlement
Briefly

It's the first FCC settlement ever to have specific conditions directing a company to secure application programming interfaces, which allow computer systems to communicate with one another.
The settlement stems from three data breaches involving API vulnerabilities, exposing sensitive personal information of Tracfone customers between January 2021 and January 2023.
The FCC stated that carriers and the customer information they access are prime targets for threat actors, emphasizing the importance of API security for all carriers to prevent such breaches.
