Could Scots soon be charged extra 25p for single-use cups?
Briefly

The Scottish government is considering a new charge of 25p on single-use beverage cups to reduce landfill waste, similar to the carrier bag charge.
An estimated 388.7 million single-use beverage cups were used in Scotland in 2021-22, averaging about 71 cups per person.
The proposal includes exemptions for free drinks in hospitals and schools, and aims to assign funds raised to environmental protection measures.
Gillian Martin MSP stated the goal is to replicate the success seen with the single-use carrier bag charge, improving environmental awareness among consumers.
