France's data protection authority, the Commission nationale de l'informatique et des libertés (CNIL), has launched an investigation into a data breach involving third-party payment operators Viamedis and Almerys. The breach is reported to have affected more than 33 million individuals as Viamedis and Almerys manage payments for health and mutual insurance companies. The CNIL also stated that companies using Viamedis and Almerys must inform customers of their potential involvement in the breach.
