CISA officials commit to supporting top vulnerability cataloging program
Briefly

CISA officials have pledged ongoing support for the MITRE-backed Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures (CVE) Program, essential for identifying cybersecurity vulnerabilities across various sectors. The program, launched in 1999, provides a standardized language for vulnerability management. Despite funding challenges, CISA has reaffirmed its commitment to funding and improving the CVE Program. Chris Butera indicated the program’s importance in tracking vulnerabilities, while Robert Costello emphasized its effectiveness as a powerful cybersecurity tool.
CISA is "heavily invested" in it and will "continue to fund the CVE Program and continue to improve the CVE Program," said Chris Butera.
The vulnerability standard is "really central to all of our cybersecurity operations," Butera added.
The CVE Program provides a standardized system for identifying and cataloging publicly known cybersecurity vulnerabilities.
Costello concurred, saying it's an "extremely powerful tool, and it works extremely well."
