Australian police said Wednesday they have infiltrated Ghost, an encrypted global communications app developed for criminals, leading to dozens of arrests, including the app's alleged administrator.
Police alleged that hundreds of criminals, including members of Italian organized crime, motorcycle gangs, and Middle Eastern crime networks, utilized Ghost for importing illicit drugs and planning killings.
By monitoring around 125,000 messages and 120 video calls, police claim to have prevented 50 potential fatalities and serious injuries, showcasing the app's significant criminal connections.
The app's suspected creator is charged with supporting a criminal organization and profiting from crime, highlighting law enforcement's ongoing battle against encrypted communications used for criminal activities.
