The four-day work week will grant workers the ability to undertake their normal working hours over a four-day period. While there are campaigns advocating for a reduction of work with no loss of pay, Labour is proposing a system of "compressed hours," which does not reduce hours but rather allows for the completion of a five-day work week between Monday and Thursday.
The new package of rights for workers includes free office health checks to prevent heart attacks and strokes, and companies will be legally obliged to offer flexible working from day one except where it is not reasonably feasible.
Many question when the promised change is coming, particularly after announcements of cuts to education and health and concerns around a proposed ban on certain social activities outside of specific venues.
Tory MPs are worried that the four-day week will reduce productivity and harm businesses, raising concerns about the implications of such a shift.
