Dario Amodei, CEO of Anthropic, expressed concern over Chinese espionage targeting high-value algorithmic secrets from U.S. AI companies. Speaking at a Council on Foreign Relations event, he highlighted the risks associated with AI technology that could be stolen for authoritarian and military use. Amodei urged governmental support to bolster security measures in AI firms, advocating collaboration between the government and industry leaders. Despite calls from within the AI community for increased cooperation between the U.S. and China, he insisted on stringent export controls to mitigate risks associated with AI development in adversarial nations.
Many of these algorithmic secrets, there are $100 million secrets that are a few lines of code. And, you know, I'm sure that there are folks trying to steal them, and they may be succeeding.
Anthropic argues that the federal government should partner with AI industry leaders to beef up security at frontier AI labs, including by working with U.S. intelligence agencies and their allies.
