Since January, Trump's presidency has led to radical changes, notably the removal of critical data on government websites like the CDC and NIH. The Not Invisible Act Commission's final report, which addressed the epidemic of missing and murdered Indigenous peoples (MMIP), is no longer accessible online despite being mandated by bipartisan legislation. This report consolidated the experiences of nearly 600 participants, detailing recommendations aimed at confronting the MMIP crisis. The act marked a significant milestone in addressing a long-standing issue affecting Indigenous communities.
The Not Invisible Act Commission's final report was a culmination of seven in-person field hearings held across the country and a one-day virtual national hearing.
Accurate statistics about the MMIP and missing and murdered Indigenous women (MMIW) crises can be limited and dated, but, as of 2019, homicide was the third most common cause of death for Indigenous girls aged 15 to 19.
