Volunteers Repaint and Repair Mural as Progress Continues on Converting Great Highway - Streetsblog San Francisco
Briefly

A community effort restored a vandalized mural titled 'A History of Play' at the Great Highway Park, which embodies the city's recreational development efforts. Despite new findings of anti-park graffiti opposing the park, volunteers and park advocates remain optimistic about public engagement with the newly established oceanfront park. Local authorities view the vandalism as isolated incidents rather than evidence of widespread dissent, emphasizing the community's love for the park and its features. Increased police and ranger patrols aim to combat further vandalism while promoting public enjoyment.
"I was overjoyed by and incredibly grateful for the outpouring of community support following the incident," wrote muralist Emily Fromm in an email to Streetsblog.
"People are loving the oceanfront park, and while there will always be a few outliers who choose to be destructive, we're not going to let that get in the way of the community enjoying this space," said Friends of Ocean Beach Park President Lucas Lux in a statement.
