San Jose homeless people struggle with clean water sources - San Jose Spotlight
Briefly

In San Jose's Columbus Park, dozens of homeless residents have endured ongoing water shortages from park sources, primarily due to the city shutting off fountains for two months. While a spigot was temporarily reopened, it also went dry shortly after and forced residents to rely on advocates or distant sources for water. Residents expressed frustration, particularly regarding challenges posed to vulnerable individuals within the community. The city’s policy changes, including street sweeps and RV bans, have led to an increase in the homeless population at the park, compounding these issues.
When they shut off water, it's hard to give water to our animals. They don't realize how hard it is out here. It's scary because what if there's a fire? Right now people start fires to keep themselves warm.
Older people, people (who) are disabled or mentally ill, they don't know where to get (water). There's a lot of (them) here.
More people have been funneling into Columbus Park lately, homeless residents told San José Spotlight. Teresa recently moved from Commercial Street to the park after the city swept the area.
Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Services spokesperson Amanda Rodriguez said San Jose Water shut off the spigot because of concerns over contamination.
