RingSide Steakhouse, a historic restaurant in Portland, is closed following a kitchen fire on April 5. Firefighters extinguished the flames quickly, and thankfully, no one was injured. The fire caused significant damage, prompting the restaurant to focus on repairs and restoration. RingSide has a long-standing reputation in the area, having been established in 1944 and known for its iconic onion rings and tuxedoed servers. While the restaurant expresses heartbreak over the incident, it remains grateful for the safety of its staff and patrons. Updates on its reopening will follow.
According to fire officials, crews arrived to find smoke coming from the historic steakhouse. Once inside, firefighters found smoke in the dining room and a fire near the stove in the restaurant's kitchen. The flames were put out by 3 p.m.
We are heartbroken, but above all, we're grateful that everyone is safe.
Originally an Italian restaurant, it was bought by Allan and Marguerite Delepine in 1944 and has been in the family ever since.
Beyond its steaks, RingSide is famous for its tuxedo'd servers and its onion rings, which James Beard himself said were "the best I've ever had."
