Inaugural Newgrass Festival brings bluegrass bands, including Broken Compass and Never Come Down, to Newberg * Oregon ArtsWatch
Briefly

Yamhill County has witnessed a surge in musical events, including the Walnut City Music Festival and the upcoming Newgrass Festival, which highlights bluegrass musicians from across Oregon. Organizer Christian DeBenedetti, owner of Wolves & People Farmhouse Brewery, initiated these gatherings to foster community among musicians post-pandemic. Since then, a weekly bluegrass jam has attracted numerous talented artists, transforming into a vibrant space for collaboration rather than performance. This trend illustrates the region's growing appreciation for music and community engagement.
"Community was something I was really personally seeking out, so I put a note out on Facebook to area musicians and 22 musicians came out, the first time."
"It's not a performance, per se, we're not playing to an audience, it's a true bluegrass jam, where the artists are standing in a circle, and you play in a clockwise direction."
