Downtown SF to get first brick-and-mortar of popular taco business
Briefly

After being closed in January, Al Pastor Papi, the popular pink taco trailer in the Bay Area, will reopen as a brick-and-mortar restaurant in the Vacant to Vibrant program. Owner Miguel Escobedo expressed excitement about the location at 232 O'Farrell St. near Union Square, previously housing a Chipotle. Despite a successful previous venture in the food industry, Escobedo faced personal challenges that necessitated a pause. Now, he anticipates a wider menu and new opportunities as he resumes his business and prioritizes mental health.
"I'm excited to be partners with V2V [Vacant to Vibrant] in helping bring excitement and great food to the heart of the city," owner Miguel Escobedo told SFGATE in a text.
"I will take this time to rest, take care of my mental and physical health, be with the kids, and create time and space to plan the next move, so please stay tuned," he wrote on Instagram in January.
Escobedo gained immense popularity thanks to tremendous food, media hype and savvy social media posts that often photoshopped tacos, tortas and burritos in memorable memes.
Now that he's back, Escobedo says he's "very excited" to work his own brick-and-mortar space, adding that he thinks it'll be a lot of fun.
