Council to pick between a library courtyard or an apricot orchard
Briefly

Los Altos City Council is set to resolve a dispute regarding a proposed library courtyard adjacent to a historic apricot orchard. The project, supported by the Historical and Planning Commissions, aims to enhance library services with an outdoor classroom and reading nooks. Funded by the Los Altos Library Endowment, including a significant donation, the project raises concerns about potential impacts on the historic orchard, which will retain all its trees despite losing some planting sites. Opponents from the Preservation Action League have appealed the project, leading to the council's involvement.
When the classroom isn't hosting an event, it could be configured with tables and chairs for library patrons to use.
The loss of the planting sites 'will not affect the orchard's historic significance or integrity, as these sites do not individually contribute to the orchard as a whole.'
