Rob Diggins brings an energetic and joyful spirit to his performances with the Portland Baroque Orchestra, embodying a captivating blend of movement and music. His playful demeanor, exemplified by his remark that Bach and Handel are 'groovy,' underscores a unique approach to traditionally classical compositions. Starting his musical journey at a young age, Diggins has honed his skills through rigorous training and performance. As he prepares to be a featured soloist, his vivacity challenges perceptions of classical music's often rigid presentation, showcasing its potential for exuberance and modernity.
"Because it's groovy," he replies.
Diggins, the youngest of six children raised in Southern California, was 4 ½ years old the first time a violin was officially placed in his hands.
Weeks have passed since Diggins was asked such a silly question.
His yoga-honed body all but lists as he dances with 'Mr. Richards,' his 126-year-old violin.
