Indiana Bill Would Limit Sports Betting, Ban Advertising
Briefly

House Bill 1532 has been introduced in Indiana to restrict betting on high school and amateur sports, as well as elections. The bill proposes to prevent sportsbooks from accepting wagers on unapproved events and imposes fines for various violations. With sports betting gaining popularity in Indiana since its legalization in 2019, the state reported a whopping $5.2 billion handle in 2024. Concurrently, Rep. Ethan Manning introduced another bill to potentially legalize online gaming, outlining licensing fees and a responsible gaming fund.
Current law allows a certificate holder or vendor to accept wagers on professional and collegiate sporting events approved for sports wagering by the commission and other events as approved by the commission.
The bill includes strict penalties for violations: $1,000 for the first offense, $2,500 for the second offensive, and $5,000 for a third offensive that may include license revocation.
