Gino & Carlo in North Beach hosts its 53rd annual eight-ball pool tournament, welcoming 256 competitors throughout March. This longstanding tradition, rooted in community, originated in 1972 when Frank Rossi Sr. organized a friendly competition inspired by the NCAA basketball tournament. Now, the tournament draws numerous players from across the Bay Area who aim for glory not only for the cash prize but also to earn recognition on a prominent wooden sign at the bar, epitomizing skill and local prestige.
"...the initial rumblings begin as early as December. To find the source, go through the Castleton green doors of the 83-year-old corner dive where Jasper meets Green Street."
"This is where Gino & Carlo's 53rd annual eight-ball pool tournament...will take place throughout all of March. A whopping 256 people are slated to compete not just for a cash prize..."
