A recent analysis of the Podtrac rankers highlights the dominance of the iHeart Audience Network in the podcast sector. However, these ranks do not encompass the entirety of the podcasting industry. By reorganizing the list of top U.S. podcast publishers based on average downloads per active podcast, we find that Revolver Podcasts surprisingly ranks at the top, showcasing that individual shows can excel independently. Meanwhile, the Walt Disney Company, despite having a significant portfolio of active podcasts, reflects lower average downloads per show due to a wider distribution of listens.
In evaluating the Podtrac rankers, it’s evident that the iHeart Audience Network leads the podcast industry, but their influence is not the sole representation of the market.
Interestingly, when re-sorting the data by average downloads per active podcast, Revolver Podcasts emerges as the leader, indicating a stronger performance for individual shows.
The Walt Disney Company showcases the challenge of maintaining high average downloads across a vast number of active shows, often leading to diluted averages per show.
This analysis reminds us that the Podtrac rankings offer insights but are not a full picture of the podcast landscape, highlighting individual podcast performance distinctly.
