From bustling Venice Beach to gas station shrines: Alex Frayne's photographic exploration of America
"South Australian artist Alex Frayne explores the fractured psyche of modern America through photography. Shot almost entirely on analogue film over three years and across nine states, Frayne's lens focuses on the fringes of the west, deep south and Bible belt."
Alex Frayne, a South Australian artist, presents a photographic exploration of modern America's psychological fragmentation as part of the Adelaide Festival 2026. Shot entirely on analogue film over three years, the project spans nine states and concentrates on peripheral regions including the west, deep south, and Bible belt. The exhibition, titled Manifest Destiny, runs from 28 February to 15 March at ILA (Immersive Light and Art), offering viewers an intimate examination of America's cultural and psychological landscape through Frayne's distinctive photographic lens.
