Marie Deteneuille's latest book highlights the spontaneous intimacy developed during a single day of shooting with model Nuage Lepage along the Normandy coastline. Deteneuille views photography as a means to forge connections, often with newcomers in a minimalistic environment. The project allowed both women to build rapport, as they resonated with mutual respect and understanding; over time, the act of photography receded into the background, becoming an incidental element in the foundation of their friendship.
"In recent years, I've spent time photographing people I don't know in my home, in a very stripped-back setting, the idea that an encounter can be driven purely by the act of creating an image fascinates me."
"I admired her soft, honest gaze - her beauty reminds me of Renaissance paintings; there's a balance in the way she presents herself as she is while also embodying a sense of mystery."
