A Pennsylvania traveler made headlines when he was caught attempting to board a flight with a live red-ear slider turtle hidden in his pants at Newark International Airport. The incident occurred when he set off alarms while passing through security. TSA agents conducted a pat-down and discovered the turtle wrapped in a towel. Although no charges have been confirmed yet, the pet was confiscated, and the man was escorted out by police, emphasizing the unusual nature of this case compared to common security breaches.
We have seen travelers try to conceal knives and other weapons on their person, in their shoes and in their luggage, however I believe this is the first time we have come across someone who was concealing a live animal down the front of his pants.
As best as we could tell, the turtle was not harmed by the man's actions.
