TikTok has launched a Wind Down tool that activates for users under 16 if they remain on the app after 10pm, interrupting their feed to promote relaxation with calming music. This initiative includes parental controls like 'Time Away', allowing parents to block access during specific hours. Val Richey, TikTok's trust and safety head, emphasized the importance of guiding teens towards healthier digital habits rather than just imposing limits. The update is part of TikTok's broader Family Pairing tools, enhancing visibility into children’s usage and connections on the platform.
The new Wind Down tool will automatically turn on if a TikTok user under 16 is on the app after 10pm, interrupting the For You feed with a full-screen takeover and playing calming music.
TikTok's global head of outreach and partnerships stated the platform aims to support teenage wellbeing by exploring new ways to guide teens in developing healthy digital habits.
