The experience of having numerous cousins was a hallmark of my upbringing, creating bonds and altered dynamics in school that my children don’t quite replicate.
Watching my children socialize with their 16 cousins fills me with both nostalgia and envy, as they experience family interactions I never had.
My own family history is uniquely bottom-heavy, resulting in a small number of cousins and vastly different family gatherings than those of my friends.
Growing up with large families meant that fights were often interrupted or influenced by a vast network of cousins, fostering a sense of unity even in conflict.
