Jocelyn Koch Aguilera and her mother, Jacquelin Aguilera Betanzo, are on a quest to find Kevin, Jacquelin's son, who was adopted in 2004. Jaquelin, facing personal and financial difficulties, temporarily placed her two youngest children in foster care. She hoped they would remain together but they were separated. Jaquelin's reports of irregularities in Kevin's adoption process have fueled their search, reflecting struggles not just with the adoption system but also the trauma of familial separation.
"I couldn't support my children, so I temporarily left them to the state. But I never thought this decision would involve my son being adopted," recalls Jaquelin.
"Every time I went to see him, he cried desperately, saying that he wanted to go home. But I had no power, no control over what was happening," Jaquelin shares.
