Kristen Bell's heartfelt apology to her daughters, shared by Dax Shepard, emphasizes the value of honesty and emotional accountability in parenting. Clinical social worker Colette Ingrid Brown points out that Bell exemplifies authoritative parenting by modeling responsibility and communication. This approach, while possibly perceived as a loss of authority, fosters a transparent relationship that can benefit children into adulthood. Brown believes that embracing vulnerability as a parent is crucial for maintaining healthy, open relationships with children as they grow older.
Dear Girls, I lost my temper last night - twice - and I owe you both an apology. I love you so very much + I'm sorry. Xoxo Mom.
Authoritative parenting is very much about parents lending their life experience to their children, modeling for them how to communicate, how to do all the things we need them to learn how to do to become functioning adults.
We have to show our kids that we're able to be vulnerable and open and transparent if that is the relationship we want to have with them when they become adults.
Sometimes parents don't think about what our children become as they age and become adults. But I think Bell has the right idea.
