I Thought Our Kid Would Be Sad About Our Dead Cat... Yikes.
Briefly

Let me first reassure you that even though your son is talking about death so matter-of-factly, it doesn't mean he didn't love Kitty. Some kids are profoundly affected by death, and others have a more pragmatic, detached reaction to it; most kids are probably somewhere in the middle.
It's important to support his curiosity and answer his questions, but it's also okay to establish boundaries and remind him that while it's fine to talk about Kitty's death, it might be more appropriate to do so within certain contexts, like with family or at bedtime when you're winding down for the day.
