My niece skipped all the holidays at home this year. She claimed she was too busy. Now she hasn't been taking her parents' calls.
Your niece is a young adult and out on her own now, so I don't think you need to speak up for her the way you might have if she were a little kid with nowhere to go and no voice of her own.
