In Southern California, a bald eagle family captivated viewers as Jackie, the mother eagle, cleverly distracted Shadow, the dad, to take over incubating their three eggs. Caught on camera, Jackie flied into the nest and humorously dropped a stick onto Shadow's back, which caused a stir. As Shadow struggled to remove the stick, Jackie seized the moment and snuck back to the eggs. Their antics were shared by Sandy Steers of Friends of Big Bear Valley and can be viewed live online as they approach the eagerly awaited hatching date on March 1.
Jackie was so shocked that such a slip-up could have happened that she couldn't do anything but stare at the stick and circle around Shadow as he tried to pull it off of his own back.
Jackie probably did that on purpose and knew it would tick him off and she'd get her chance back on the eggs.
He already knew the game was over and left peacefully.
A pip happens when an eaglet makes a small hole or crack in the egg.
