Non-profit Indigo Arts Alliance purchases building it has rented for years
Briefly

Indigo Arts Alliance (IAA), a non-profit artist residency in Portland, Maine, has officially purchased the 8,000 sq. ft. building it had rented since 2018. Designed by co-founders Daniel and Marcia Minter, the space includes artist studios, offices, and exhibition areas to support Black and Brown artists. Fundraising efforts over the last year and a half enabled this significant acquisition, marking a commitment to the long-term sustainability of IAA. Executive Director Jordia Benjamin emphasized that ownership secures their legacy and commitment to serving artists of color amid rising local real estate demand.
"From our very inception, Indigo Arts Alliance was envisioned as a legacy organisation that would serve as a model of community engagement for the arts with a specific focus on amplifying Black and Brown creativity."
"Our property ownership secures our legacy and ensures that our long-term commitment to serve local, regional and global artists of colour can exist for generations to come."
