Ford Motor Co. is constructing BlueOval City, a $5.6 billion electric vehicle assembly plant in West Tennessee, designed to revive the local economy. In addition to creating over 6,000 jobs, a vital aspect of the project is repurposing a dilapidated schoolhouse into the Ford Community Center in Stanton. The center will offer job training, financial literacy, and healthcare access, using over 2,500 hours of community input to ensure it meets residents' needs effectively. This initiative focuses on empowering the largely Black community after years of economic stagnation, enabling them to benefit from the new developments.
It's a front door for helping people who wish to participate in the rising tide of BlueOval City, says Josh McManus.
There are a lot of lifelong residents in the area who, because there's been next to no economic activity, are in need of hard skills and soft skills, McManus says.
