Jan, the oldest sloth in the world, passed away at 54 years old in Krefeld zoo, where he was cared for by his keepers for over 25 years.
Born in 1969, Jan spent significant time at various zoos before residing in Krefeld for 38 years, where he fathered 22 pups during his lifetime.
In 2021, Jan earned the Guinness World Record title as the 'Oldest sloth in human care', surpassing the previous record held by another sloth named Paula.
Despite his advanced age, Jan fathered his last baby sloth, a girl, in March of this year, illustrating that he remained active and thriving until the end.
