Weather tracker: Storm Boris brings catastrophic flooding to central Europe
Briefly

Storm Boris has resulted in catastrophic flooding and extreme rainfall across central and eastern Europe, particularly impacting Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Alpine regions. The torrential rains have caused significant loss of life and exceptional snowfalls in the Alps, leading to dangerous snow drifts.
The unsettled weather caused by Storm Boris is expected to continue through early next week, though high pressure will eventually settle conditions. However, high temperatures will melt snow in alpine regions, potentially keeping river levels elevated.
An area of low pressure off the Carolinas is predicted to track northwards over warm Gulf Stream waters. Should it develop into a tropical storm, it may bring damaging winds and flash flooding to the southeastern and mid-Atlantic US.
Japan's summer of 2024 has been marked by record-breaking heatwaves, with averages 1.76C above normal, pushing temperatures in Tokyo to around 34C (93.2F) later this week, 6-7C above mid-September norms.
