US solar production soars by 25 percent in just one year

Solar power generation in the US has increased significantly, with utility-scale production up by 29% and small-scale solar by 18% in the first five months of 2024.
Other generating sources like coal, nuclear, and hydroelectric remained flat, while wind and natural gas saw modest increases. Natural gas experienced a 5% rise, surpassing the combined increase of wind and solar.
Energy usage in the US rose by about 4% from the same period in 2023. Factors contributing to this increase include the rise of bitcoin mining, growth of data centers, and electrification of appliances and transport.
