When we opened our doors, we knew our market would be mostly white people. Fearing our Black faces might deter potential guests, we designed our website to highlight the property instead.
We didn't want to advertise that we were African Americans, and we didn't want our clientele to be limited. Our focus was on creating an inviting experience for everyone.
We've seen a resurgence in interest for traditional bed and breakfast establishments as concerns about short-term rental platforms like Airbnb grow. This has helped us become a staple of the community.
Despite the challenges posed by competitive alternatives to traditional lodging, we've carved out a niche and now enjoy being recognized and appreciated by our local patrons.
