The race to save fossils exposed by Brazil's record-setting floods
Briefly

The unprecedented flooding in southern Brazil revealed significant palaeontological finds, yet it also poses a risk, threatening delicate fossils with additional rain and soil erosion.
'If palaeontologists are not there to collect material when it starts showing, we risk losing some of it forever,' says Leonardo Kerber regarding urgent fossil recovery efforts.
Rodrigo Temp Müller noted their expectations were met, stating, 'We were sure we'd find something after the heavy rains, but the specimen still exceeded expectations.'
In the wake of the floods, researchers intensified the monitoring of excavation sites fearing that without immediate action, many discoveries could be lost forever.
