At Bridge Farm Group in England's Lincolnshire County, about 90 million plants, including roses and marigolds, are grown each year, but many go unsold due to fluctuations in demand or quality issues. This results in over 990 million tonnes of ornamental plant waste annually in the UK. Unilever, partnering with the University of Nottingham, is investigating ways to recycle these unsold flowers into natural fragrances for their products. According to Neil Parry, head of biotechnology at Unilever, 'Plants that don't make the grade still have valuable materials with functional benefits.'
