Scores of reports of sick sea lions along California's Central Coast
Briefly

Giancarlo Rulli noted an increase in affected sea lions due to domoic acid. Roughly 25% of sea lions, dolphins, and fur seals died, with euthanasia as a common response.
Domoic acid causes brain and heart damage in marine mammals, leading to seizures and heart failure. Wildlife rescuers have been inundated with sick animals along Ventura and Santa Barbara counties.
