"I grew up here... but everything has changed over the years and now the only way to know where the fish are going to be is to come out and see for myself," Aguon shared, indicating the impact of shifting natural conditions.
Rising sea levels and powerful storm surges are affecting local residents. The combination of these factors with 'king tides' is causing increasing damage, according to Aguon.
Typhoons have also become more destructive and long-lasting, as evidenced during Typhoon Haiyan in 2013 that devastated the island of Kayangel, destroying nearly all buildings.
