West Orange officials reported that nearly 250 trees were cut down illegally at The Manor, highlighting a serious disregard for local environmental regulations.
Resident Joyce Rudin expressed her horror at the tree loss, stating, "The Manor is a beloved site not just in West Orange, but in all of New Jersey" and emphasized the community’s emotional attachment.
Council President Bill Rutherford warned about the flooding risks, noting, "Everyone down slope from here is going to face additional challenges with regard to water" following the tree removals.
Due to the illegal removals, the new owners of The Manor, now being renamed The Grand Chateau, face nearly 500 summonses, reflecting the legal consequences of environmental negligence.
