NASA's Spherex observatory was successfully launched to map the entire sky, aiming to reveal the formation and evolution of galaxies dating back to the universe's early moments. With a budget of $488 million, Spherex will conduct four full-sky surveys over two years while flying over Earth's poles. Unlike Hubble and Webb, Spherex won't focus on individual galaxies but on the collective cosmological glow, helping scientists understand light that may have previously gone unnoticed. This could aid in uncovering the ingredients for life within our own Milky Way.
It's a very different way of looking at the universe, enabling scientists to see what sources of light may have been missed in the past.
We won't see the big bang. But we'll see the aftermath from it and learn about the beginning.
