NASA selects SpaceX to launch a gamma-ray telescope into an unusual orbit
Briefly

The Compton Spectrometer and Imager (COSI) mission will study the gamma-rays emitted by massive star explosions, leading to the formation of heavier elements through nucleosynthesis.
COSI will also investigate positron annihilation, detect short gamma-ray bursts from merging neutron stars, and explore the relatively unexplored segment of soft gamma-rays in the electromagnetic spectrum.
This small satellite will orbit around 340 miles above the equator to avoid interference from radiation over the South Atlantic Anomaly and is set to launch in 2027 on a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket.
