NASA knows what knocked Voyager 1 offline, but it will take a while to fix
Briefly

Engineers at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) confirmed a small portion of corrupted memory in Voyager 1's Flight Data System caused the transmission of gibberish data. About 3 percent of the system's memory was corrupted, disrupting normal operations.
Suzanne Dodd, NASA's project manager for the Voyager probes, highlighted the severity of the problem, considering it one of the most challenging faced by the mission, despite the spacecraft being among NASA's longest-lived ones.
