NASA engineers are currently conducting the first-ever aircraft accident investigation on another planet as they assess the final flight of the Ingenuity Mars Helicopter.
Ingenuity exceeded expectations by flying 72 times over almost three years, despite only being designed for five flights in 30 days.
The hard landing of Ingenuity caused its rotor blades to snap, marking the end of its flights but providing valuable data for future aircraft designs.
Scientists are using the knowledge gained from Ingenuity's missions to improve rotorcraft designs, such as the Mars Chopper, capable of maintaining longer flights.
