NASA confirmed its development of a new lunar time system, Coordinated Lunar Time (LTC), to be established by 2026 to address timing differences on the Moon.
According to Cheryl Gramling, NASA's timing and standards leader, an Earth clock on the Moon would gain about 56 microseconds daily, a critical difference for navigation.
The White House policy memo instructs NASA to collaborate with several U.S. departments and international partners to implement the lunar time system effectively by 2026.
NASA's initiative for Coordinated Lunar Time (LTC) will initially address the Moon but aims to be scalable for future use on other celestial bodies like Mars.
