Dr. David Omer stated, 'We think that this behaviour is important for marmosets' social cohesion and therefore it's crucial for their survival,' highlighting the role of vocalization.
Omer noted the findings challenge previous assumptions, asserting that vocalisation in primates was thought to be genetically predetermined and inflexible, which our data contradict.
The research team observed that when separated, marmosets engaged in spontaneous exchanges of distinct vocalizations to identify one another, underlining their complex communication abilities.
