Lego plans to replace oil-based bricks with renewable plastic as profits soar
Briefly

Lego is set to eliminate the use of oil in its bricks, opting for renewable materials and recycled plastic, despite facing a significant increase in production costs.
CEO Niels Christiansen explained that while the shift to certified renewable resin increases production costs by up to 70%, Lego will not raise prices for customers.
After testing over 600 materials, Lego is committed to achieving oil-free production by 2032, demonstrating the challenges faced by traditional toy makers in adopting sustainable practices.
The company previously attempted to shift to recycled PET but found it generated more pollution; still, it remains committed to sustainable materials.
