The global average surface temperature in July reached 16.91°C (62.4°F), making it the second hottest July on record. Despite being slightly cooler than the previous high, this marked the first time in over a year a month didn't break records.
Last month saw an average temperature of 17.16°C (62.89°F) on July 22, the hottest day ever recorded. With a 0.27°C (0.49°F) increase compared to 2023, 2024 is poised to set unprecedented heat records.
The global average surface air temperature in July was 1.48°C (2.66°F) above the pre-industrial period for 1850-1900. This marks the first time in a year that monthly temperatures didn't surpass the 1.5°C (2.7°F) limit set by the Paris Agreement.
