The Alpha Capricornids meteor shower was discovered in 1871 and is visible annually as Earth's orbit intersects streams of debris from comets.
In total, there were two meteor showers in NYC this week: The Southern Delta Aquariid and the Alpha Capricornids, the latter peaking on July 31.
